Lake life is the good life. I know this for a fact because I’m one of the fortunate people who get to live on a lake year round. If you’ve never experienced lake life for yourself, you’re definitely missing out! In my quest to persuade you to venture out to the lake this summer, I’ve compiled a list of 10 Things You Must Do At The Lake. Come check it out!
It’s really no secret. I openly talk about my love of lake living any chance I get. One of my very first stories ever written on this blog was about how lake life has changed me and my family for the better. Two years later, I stand by that statement even more so. I’m pretty much obsessed with lake life if you couldn’t tell already!
It was hard to just pick 10, but I have compiled a list of 10 Things You Must Do At The Lake to hopefully inspire you to make a trip to the lake this summer. Beaches are fun. Fancy hotels with swimming pools are great. There’s something about lake time, though, that makes my heart go pitter-patter.
Our family loves to fish! We are fortunate to live on a lake that is perfect for bass fishing. After a long day of work or school, you’ll likely see one of “The Boys” casting their poles out into the lake right off our dock. It’s one of the ways they calm down after a rough day.
If we have more time, like on a Sunday morning, you’ll find us heading out on the pontoon in the hunt for some bass. Luckie enjoys it just as much as we do, if not more!
Paddleboarding is such a great water activity to do on the lake. It’s great exercise too! The lake water is calmer than being in the ocean so it’s the perfect place to try it for the first time. Just stay clear of any of the bigger boats!
Kayaking is yet another perfect lake activity to try. Zach loves to take his kayak out with a couple of fishing poles on the back in hopes of catching a mega bass! Like paddleboarding, you’ll find kayaking to be an awesome workout. It’s always nice when you can get in a workout and still have fun while doing it.
We absolutely love our pontoon boat. It really is one of the best investments we’ve made since moving to the lake. Whether we are using it to fish, tube or just for a nice ride around the lake, our pontoon has made our lake life experience that much better! I highly recommend you experience it for yourself.
While on your boat, you absolutely have to go tubing! It is such an exhilarating experience and one that you’ll understand only when trying it for yourself. My one piece of advice is to hold on for dear life because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
If water sports aren’t your thing, blow up a float and just veg out. We purchased this four-seater float last summer and love it. It even has a cooler in the center if you plan on camping out in it for a while.
Meals by the water
When visiting the lake, you must eat at least one meal a day overlooking the water. It takes your dining experience to the next level. Grab a glass of wine and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the water.
I’m fortunate to have a pretty amazing musician at my house! Zach loves sitting on the dock and playing chords on his guitar. No one in your family is musically inclined? No sweat! Grab a radio and play your favorite playlist instead.
Hangout by the bonfire
A bonfire is a must when visiting the lake. We love to light a bonfire and have a movie night in the backyard. Of course, s’mores are a must at every bonfire so make sure to be equipped with everything you’ll need.
The sunsets on the lake NEVER.GET.OLD. I could literally take pictures of them every day and not get tired of them. Grab a glass of wine, sit on an Adirondack chair, and enjoy the show Mother Nature has in store for you. It’s truly breathtaking.
I can come up with so many amazing reasons but I hope these 10 Things You Must Do At The Lake have convinced you that it’s time to check out lake life for yourself. Don’t you want to see what it’s all about? Are you ready to get into a Lake Life State of Mind yet?
