Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips
Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips are the ultimate breakfast idea! If you love pancakes, you’ll love them even more with a mixture of melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon swirling all through them. And if that wasn’t enough, a sprinkle of cinnamon chips finish off this easy and delicious breakfast recipe sending your tastebuds straight to heaven. Yum!
I know I say this often, but this time I truly mean it. This recipe is a WINNER! It’s a total “knock-your-socks-off” kind of creation that will leave you begging for more…Yes, these Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips are that good folks!
If you couldn’t already tell, I’m slightly obsessed with these pancakes.
My love for them started almost a year ago while out to breakfast with Patrick at First Watch. Do you have a First Watch in your area? It’s a breakfast and lunch chain with super fresh ingredients and delicious food. You must try it!
One of my favorite things about First Watch is that they create a seasonal menu to accompany their normal menu. It features ingredients and flavors that are popular during that specific season. It was during the fall season last year that I tried this pancake recipe for the first time.
I was blown away the minute I tried these pancakes. It was basically “love at first bite”! I admittedly went back to First Watch at least 2 (or more!) times just to eat these pancakes. And quite frankly, I’m not the least ashamed to admit that.
With fall quickly coming to an end, I knew I had to try my hand at making these pancakes at home if I ever wanted to have them again. I wasn’t sure that I would be able to live a life without these pancakes in it! I needed to know how to make them myself.
Dramatic? For sure! But if it weren’t for my fear of never eating these pancakes again, this recipe would have never been born. You’d never get to try the pure deliciousness that these Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes have to offer and that would be sad. So basically, you’re welcome!
Whenever I want to try and recreate a recipe I always start by asking questions from the source. In this case, I asked our waitress at First Watch if she could ask the cook how they made these scrumptious pancakes. Lucky for me, she already knew all the ingredients and was able to ramble them off to me. She made sure to let me know the secret ingredient: cinnamon chips.
FYI, they look just like chocolate chips but are cinnamon flavored. I was totally mind blown by this!
With a little more help from Google and Pinterest, I was able to come up with the recipe I am sharing with you today. I must say, I did find a TON of cinnamon pancakes out there, but none had cinnamon chips added to them. First Watch wasn’t lying when they said that was their secret ingredient!
Sorry, not sorry, to let your secret out, First Watch.
If I can give you any advice before making these Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips, it would be to have patience. The first couple pancakes aren’t going to look so pretty! It will take you some time to get into the Pancaking Groove. By the third or fourth attempt, I deemed my pancakes picture worthy. Don’t give up!
So what do I need to make Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips?
Pancake mix (I used Aunt Jemima), ½ cup butter (melted), ½ cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, cinnamon chips (I used Hershey brand)
Begin by melting your ½ cup of butter. Once melted, add in the brown sugar and cinnamon and stir it all together.
Transfer your butter mixture into a Ziploc and set it aside.
Next, prepare your pancake mix.
Place a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and spray it with Pam.
Once the skillet is heated, add in a ½ cup measurement of pancake batter.
While the pancake batter is starting to cook, grab your Ziploc bag with the butter mixture and cut the very end of one of the corners.
Carefully move all the filling to that one side of the Ziploc bag like so.
You’ll know when to start making your swirl once you notice the pancake batter starting to bubble.
Starting from the center, make a circular pattern with the butter mixture around the pancake. You’ll also want to sprinkle on some of your cinnamon chips here.
Carefully flip over the pancake and let it cook for about a minute longer. You’ll notice that the butter mixture will start to ooze out the sides just a little bit. This is normal. I’ve yet to be able to figure out a way to avoid this. If you figure it out, let me know in the comments!
Transfer the finished pancake to a plate. Make sure to wipe out the bottom of the pan with a paper towel before moving on to the next pancake.
Complete the process all over again for the remaining pancakes.
Before serving, sprinkle on a few extra cinnamon chips because, well, why not!
Don’t these Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Cinnamon Chips sound dreamy?! Snuggle up on the couch with your family on a crisp fall morning, pancakes in one hand and a mug of warm apple cider in the other, and prepare to do NOTHING. I’d love to see you doing just that so take a picture and send it my way!
