Cranberry Orange Pinwheel Sandwiches

Cranberry Orange Pinwheel SandwichesCranberry Orange Pinwheel Sandwiches are the perfect addition to any party spread! The contrast between sweet and savory is perfection in a bite. These are a must try, PEOPLE!

I had seen these Cranberry Orange Pinwheel sandwiches all over Pinterest and I knew I wanted to try them at some point. I decided to “pin” them for later use 🙂 The recipe I saved came from an awesome blog I love to read, Reluctant Entertainer. I used her recipe with only one modification and these little guys were AMAZING.

I served these pinwheel sandwiches at my husband Patrick’s birthday party last week. We had a huge gathering with about 40 plus people over to watch the Mayweather vs. McGregor boxing match. We had a blast and I shared it in this post, How To Throw A Party For Someone Special Stress-Free.

The fight started extremely late. I believe the main event didn’t come on until about 11:30 pm, which meant that I needed food items that would not only taste good but hold up throughout the course of the night. I’ve learned that anything made with wraps tends to last longer. Wraps are less absorbent than bread (no sogginess) and can withstand the “test of time”. I often find myself adding some sort of wrap to my menu because of this.

Another perk to these Cranberry Orange Pinwheel Sandwiches is that they can be made ahead of time. This is a MAJOR plus for me. One of the keys to organizing a stress-free gathering is being able to tackle your party tasks over multiple days so you aren’t overwhelmed the day of the party. That is one of my party hacks I’ve learned over the years to not only save my sanity, but everyone else’s around me!

So what you will need to make Cranberry Orange Pinwheel Sandwiches?

4 flour tortillas, 2 bunches of green onions, 2 (8 oz) packages of cream cheese, 1 cup of Craisins (the original recipe uses dried orange cranberries from Trader Joe’s), an orange and garlic salt.

The most important thing to do in this recipe is to let the cream cheese come to room temperature! You want to be able to stir in your ingredients without feeling like your arm is about to fall off. If I know I am going to be making a recipe in the morning, I will leave my cream cheese out on the counter overnight to soften. I know some people freak out about this but not me. I also do this with my eggs and butter if I am going to use them in a recipe the next day. I have done this a million times and have never had an issue. Plus, the Food Network stars do the same thing so that’s all the credibility I need 🙂

  1. Place your 2 (8 oz.) packages of cream cheese into a bowl with a teaspoon of garlic salt and a teaspoon of freshly squeezed orange juice. Set bowl aside.
  2. Chop your two bunches of green onions and add them to a bowl with 1 cup of craisins. Mix.
  3. Now it’s time to assemble. Spread the filling evenly over each of the four flour tortillas and sprinkle the green onion/craisin mixture on top.
  4. Roll up tortillas. (*If you are making this ahead of time you can wrap these up in aluminum foil or plastic wrap at this point and cut them just before serving.)
  5. Cut off the ends and take a taste 🙂 That’s what I did at least! Delicious, right???
  6. Cut each roll into about 8 – 10 even pieces and place on a platter or serving dish.
  7. Garnish with the zest of an orange. (*I forgot this step when I made them, opps!)

These were a huge crowd pleaser the night of the party. I made fun food labels to go along with the boxing theme party I threw. You can read more about them in my post, How To Throw A Party For Someone Special Stress-Free.
