I love Sundays. More specifically, I love the Sundays that Patrick doesn’t have to go to work. He gets two off a month and those two days have become sacred in our home.
These two Sundays are our dedicated Family Days. Sadly, they’re the only two days in the entire month that all three of us are able to be together from the minute we wake up until we put our heads down on our pillows at night.
Patrick’s job is extremely demanding but during these crazy times we are all living through, I’m just grateful he’s still working. I know it could be so much worse!
This Sunday was a sacred Sunday for us. Patrick was off and we had an action-packed day of self-quarantine. I’m not being sarcastic either…we actually accomplished a lot. Chores, time on the pontoon, and even a motorcycle ride around town. It was definitely an awesome day!
The morning started off with Patrick wanting to get up early to do some yard work. We tend to start our family days pretty early in the morning so we can get our chores done first. We’re big believers in working hard to accomplish our goals and then playing after.
I’m not much of a yard work kind of gal but I got up and went out front with Patrick for some moral support. I’m a great supervisor and can take some pretty nice pictures too. I followed him with my iPhone and took shots of his work.
Aren’t these Birds of Paradise gorgeous?!?!
After about a half-hour of hardcore supervising, I decided it was too hot to stay outside and I made my way back inside our air-conditioned house. We saw temperatures in the 90’s this weekend already. Wish us luck this summer in Florida!
To keep myself busy, and tame my guilt for bailing on Patrick, I decided to whip something up in the kitchen for brunch. I’m not the best at yard work or keeping plants alive but I can cook some yummy food. That’s one of the many ways I earn my keep around here!
I have no idea why, but I was in the mood for a nice piece of danish and a cup of coffee on Sunday. Normally, I would just go buy raspberry and cheese danish from the Publix bakery (it’s my absolute favorite!), but I didn’t think my craving was worthy enough to leave home for. I’m too much of a rule-follower to head out for danish.
So I did what I always do when I have a craving for something that I don’t have on hand. I hit up Pinterest and Google to figure out how I can make my own version!
After a quick search, it came to my attention that there are many recipes available to make danish at home using puff pastry and crescent roll dough. Guess what I didn’t have in my fridge…puff pastry or crescent roll dough. Ugh!
What I did have in my refrigerator, however, were Pillsbury canned biscuits. I usually have them on hand because they are surprisingly versatile. Besides the obvious of using them as biscuits, I’ve made some other delicious creations such as churro donut holes, easy donuts, and cinnamon monkey bread. Every one of these recipes is better than the next and family favorites of ours.
I knew that if I could make all the above with my canned biscuits, I could definitely figure out a way to make homemade fruit and cream cheese danish with them too. So I came up with my own concoction and went to town on creating my own danish recipe.
Ready to see how it went?!
Easy Fruit and Cream Cheese Danish Recipe
Grands! Buttermilk Biscuits (I used a 16.3 oz/8 count tube), 4 oz. of cream cheese (softened), 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons of sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla, ¼ cup of butter (melted), 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, any flavor fruit preserves, jam or pie filling of your choosing
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
Add your softened cream cheese, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and vanilla into a bowl.
Tip: I didn’t have time to soften my cream cheese ahead of time so I used this trick. Take the cream cheese out of its foil wrapping and set it on a microwave-safe plate or bowl. Next, microwave on HIGH power for about 10 to 15 seconds. Test the middle of the cream cheese with your finger. It should feel softer (but not hot). If needed, repeat in 10-second increments making sure not to heat the cream cheese.
Give your cream cheese mixture a stir and set it aside.
Next, mix your remaining cup of sugar and cinnamon together and put that bowl to the side too. Melt your butter in the microwave.
The Grands! Biscuits are very thick so you’ll want to carefully cut your 8 biscuits in half horizontally leaving you with 16 half-pieces of dough to work with.
Grab your melted butter, sugar and cinnamon mixture, and 16 dough pieces.
First, dip one of your biscuits in the melted butter.
Next, cover it completely with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Once completely coated, transfer your dough to a parchment-lined cookie sheet and repeat the process for the rest of your biscuits. Note: I recommend using two cookie sheets to properly separate out your danish. I tried to squeeze all of mine on one and they spread into one another.
Using the bottom of a wooden spoon or even your fingers, make a “well” in the center of your danish.
Continue making wells in all the rest of your danish.
With your wells made, add about a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture inside each of them.
Next, add a teaspoon of fruit preserves, jam or pie filling on top of your cream cheese mixture. You can be as creative as you want here. I made all apricot and cream cheese danish but you can do a mixture of all different fruit flavors if you prefer. You can also leave the fruit out altogether and make these danish strictly cream cheese.
Place your cookie sheets in the oven and bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until the danish are golden brown.
Once baked, pull them out of the oven and allow them to cool about 5 minutes before eating. I tried to eat one right out of the oven and the filling was so incredibly hot it burnt the roof of my mouth…ouch!
I recommend eating this while they are fresh out of the oven. They taste the best that way! Store any extras in an airtight container for 2 – 3 days.
And on a personal note, I like to pop any leftover danish in the microwave for 10 – 15 seconds before eating them. Yummy!
The good wife that I am, I hand-delivered a “hot out of the oven” fruit and cream cheese danish to Patrick while he was finishing up yard work. He took a bite but wanted to wait until he came inside to eat more. So I took one for the team and ate the rest of his, and then another one, when I got back inside the house.
All I can say is this easy fruit and cream cheese danish recipe was a hit this past Sunday at our house. I know you and your family will love it too! Give it a try and see what you think.

I hear ya. I have so many recipes on my list I was to make but I’ve been pretty strict on what I leave the house for! Thanks for commenting.
First, I love that your family works together on projects–outdoors and indoors. And, like you, I enjoy outdoor projects up to a point–so (again like you), I prefer whipping up something delicious in the kitchen.
These danish look absolutely delicious, amazing, and EASY! And, something I can do with my grandkids. Apricot is my favorite preserve–so I’m going to use that, too.
Thank you again for another amazing post–love those fabulous picture tutorials!
Kitchen time in the a/c is a little better than outdoor work for sure. These danish are delicious and so easy. It’s amazing how versatile canned biscuits are. I love them!
