Easy Patriotic Mimosa
My Easy Patriotic Mimosa is the perfect cocktail to make for your 4th of July and Memorial Day breakfast or brunch. With just three ingredients, you’ll have a beautiful blue cocktail to serve at any patriotic party!
In just two days, the 4th of July will be upon us. In a perfect world, I hope to get some time in the water, enjoy some delicious food on the grill, and light off a few fireworks to end the night. If any combination of these things happens, I’ll be one happy girl!
In full transparency, I have minimal plans for the 4th this year. For starters, my husband Patrick is working on Saturday until 9 pm. That is unless a miracle happens and things start to die down early. He could potentially close up shop before 9 but we’re definitely not banking on it.
Let’s add in the fact that it pretty much rains every single 4th of July here in Florida, along with the daunting realization that we might not be able to do anything with family because of Coronavirus, and you can see why I have low expectations for this year. I’m honestly just hoping we can have a family bbq at a minimum…
Like I always say though, it is what it is. Instead of crying over spilled milk, I’m doing my best to show my patriotism and celebrate this summer holiday in little ways. I spent some time on Monday making a fun DIY Patriotic Glass to use for my cocktails on the 4th. It was such an easy red, white, and blue craft that anyone can do. I suggest giving it a try!
As for today’s edition of Thirsty Thursday, I tried to channel my inner “American Pride” with this Easy Patriotic Mimosa. Using a little bit of Blue Curacao liqueur, I was able to create a lovely blue cocktail for the 4th of July!
Traditionally, a mimosa is a cocktail that is served for breakfast or brunch. It’s typically made using some sort of bubbles (champagne or Prosecco) with a splash of orange juice. I, however, like to play around with the flavor combinations as I did in this Pineapple Paradise Mimosa I made for Mother’s Day.
I’m definitely becoming obsessed with taking a tried and true cocktail and putting my own personal stamp on it. It’s so fun to do and actually quite simple. Cocktails are really just about finding the right measurements of ingredients to combine together. From there, swapping out ingredients is pretty easy.
I share this with you because you can do exactly that with this Easy Patriotic Mimosa recipe. The two non-negotiable ingredients are some sort of bubbles and Blue Curacao liqueur for the blue color. The lemonade can easily be switched for pineapple or orange juice.
Scratch that! The only non-negotiable ingredient in this mimosa is your Prosecco or champagne. You can leave out the Blue Curacao altogether and substitute it with Blue Hawaiian Punch or any other blue-colored fruit juice for that matter. See how simple it is to improvise these cocktail recipes!
Although you can drink this whenever your little heart desires, I recommend having it with your Patriotic breakfast or brunch when you get up on the 4th of July morning. Patrick might not be able to partake in drinking this cocktail with me since he has to go to work, but I can indulge in one! That just means there will be more for me.
I’m confident this mimosa will make my 4th of July food prep and cleaning a little more enjoyable, that’s for sure!
Easy Patriotic Mimosa
1 oz. Blue Curacao, Bubbles (Prosecco or champagne), lemonade (can substitute pineapple or orange juice), strawberries or cherries (optional for garnish)
*Note: I doubled the recipe for this Patriotic Mimosa in order to fit it inside this larger red, white, and blue glass. In the directions below, I explain how to make a single serving in a champagne flute.
In the bottom of your champagne flute, add 1 oz. of Blue Curacao.
Next, fill your champagne glass until it’s ¾ full.
Top your mimosa off with a little bit of lemonade making sure to leave some room at the top to add in your garnish of strawberries or cherries.
Drop in a couple of pieces of strawberry or a maraschino cherry or two and enjoy!
Although this year is so different in many ways, I’m hoping that these little festive touches will help bring some cheer to your 4th of July. If your holiday is looking a bit different too, just know that you’re not alone. And remember that this too will pass!
Whatever your plans this 4th of July, whether big or small, I hope you take the time to enjoy one of these Easy Patriotic Mimosa cocktails to start your day. You’ll be seeing fireworks for the remainder of the day…guaranteed!
