Easy Spicy Mango Margarita Recipe
It’s Margarita Time and I can’t wait to share with you this Easy Spicy Mango Margarita Recipe I created for this week’s Tequila Thursday. It’s the perfect cocktail for Cinco de Mayo, a summer party, or just to sip on by the lake.
Happy Tequila Thursday! It has been a couple of weeks since I’ve posted a tequila-based cocktail but with Cinco de Mayo coming on Tuesday, I couldn’t pass up the chance to share a fun margarita recipe with you.
I’ve shared my recipe for strawberry margaritas on the rocks on the blog before but today’s margarita is a little different version of it that packs a spicy kick. This easy spicy mango margarita recipe arguably could be my favorite cocktail creation thus far. That’s saying a lot because I’ve concocted some pretty amazing cocktails thus far on the blog. Between Strawberry Vodka Lemonade, Blackberry Mojitos, and Tequila Sunrises, I’ve been really stepping up my cocktail game as of late.
I think I love this recipe for spicy margaritas so much because they are mango-flavored and I am obsessed with all things mango. Something about fresh mangos makes me reminisce about the water and being somewhere tropical. Anything mango is my go-to vacation cocktail!
The mangos at Publix last week were calling my name so I bought a couple to bring home with me. I waited a little too long to cut into them and they were borderline “too ripe” when I finally got around to it.
Instead of letting the mangos go to waste, I thought I’d try my hand at turning them into a homemade mango simple syrup. I’ve made many other fruit variations of simple syrup before so I figured it was worth a shot to try a mango variety.
It’s so simple to make, hence the name “simple syrup”, so there’s definitely no need to be intimidated. You can whip it up in just a few minutes and then keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use it. It keeps for about 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge so you can get a good amount of cocktails from one batch.
I already used some of the mango simple syrup for a more traditional margarita on Friday, but I knew I wanted to come up with another way to use it for this special Cinco de Mayo edition of Tequila Thursday. I put a poll up in my Instagram stories asking people’s take on spicy margaritas and it turns out that the majority of my followers enjoy spicy margaritas.
Crazy, but I personally had never tried one before. I have, however, been tempted on numerous occasions to buy one when we’ve been out to dinner. Knowing that my followers enjoyed them, and I’m all about making people happy, I decided to try my hand at creating one for the blog.
After one sip of this margarita, I felt like a total dummy for waiting this long to try a spicy margarita. It was amazing and I’m not even a huge spice lover! I don’t hate spice, but I’m definitely not one to add hot sauce or additional heat to my food like my son and husband.
If you’re similar to me, in that you don’t consider yourself to be a lover of spicy foods, I highly encourage you to still take the leap and make this spicy mango margarita. Start off with one or even half a slice of jalapeno and then add more heat in your future cocktails. There’s just something about that little bit of heat and the way it offsets the sweetness in the margarita that’s pretty mindblowing.
It’s a perfect combination!
Easy Spicy Mango Margarita Recipe
Cocktail Ingredients
- 1 oz./2 tbsp triple sec, 1 oz./2 tbsp tequila, 1 oz./2 tbsp lime juice, ⅓ cup of mango simple syrup, jalapenos (sliced), lime wedges, 1 tbsp sugar/salt, ½ tsp chili powder
Mango Simple Syrup Ingredients
- 1 cup each of water, sugar, and mango
You’ll want to begin by making your mango simple syrup.
Simply place your water, sugar, and mango in a saucepan and heat over medium heat.
Cook the mixture until the mangos have broken down and the sugar has completely dissolved.
Next, you’ll want to pass the mango simple syrup mixture through a strainer to remove the leftover pieces of mango.
I like to strain my mixture over a measuring cup with a spout so it’s easier to pour into my mason jars.
You’ll want to let the mixture cool before adding it to your cocktail. I usually make my simple syrup earlier in the day and then just store it in the fridge until I’m ready to use it.
With your mango simple syrup cooled, it’s time to make your spicy mango margarita!
Start by mixing your sugar or salt together with the chili powder on a flat plate. This will be the garnish for your rim.
Rub the rim of your glass with a lime.
Dip your glass in the sugar or salt mixture. *I personally prefer sugar but you do you!!
Add ice to the glass and put it aside.
Place the tequila, triple sec, mango simple syrup, and lime juice inside the shaker along with your jalapeno slices. I added two slices into my margarita and that was the perfect amount of spiciness for me. *Note: I did not remove the seeds when adding the jalapeno slices to my drink. I was able to leave them behind when straining my cocktail into my glass!
With all the ingredients in the shaker, muddle them together making sure to really push the jalapenos against the sides of the container so you can release the flavor from them. The jalapenos won’t really “break up” but will just secrete their juices into the cocktail. Note: You don’t want to add ice yet because it will get in the way of really breaking down the jalapenos.
With all the ingredients muddled together, add ice to your shaker and give it all a good shake.
Pour the spicy mango margarita inside your glass making sure to strain the ice, jalapenos, and jalapeno seeds from your shaker. Add a lime wedge for a garnish and you’re all set, my friend!
This Easy Spicy Mango Margarita Recipe is literally a home run! I need you to promise me you are going to at least try this one time before you decide you don’t like it. You definitely wouldn’t want to be like me and regret waiting this long to enjoy something this darn delicious!
Cheers to Tequila Thursdays!
