Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Recipe type: Sauce
  • 3 slices of bacon
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ onion (chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (smashed)
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup apricot or peach preserves
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, add the bacon and thyme and cook slowly over medium heat for about 3 to 4 minutes to render some of the bacon grease.
  2. Add the chopped onions and smashed garlic cloves to the pan and continue cooking slowly for about 5 minutes. Make sure not to brown the onions or garlic.
  3. Turn the heat down to low and add all the remaining ingredients to the saucepan.
  4. Cook slowly for at least 20 minutes for the flavors to marry together.
  5. Before serving, fish out your smashed garlic cloves and bacon.
  6. Smother on ribs, chicken or anything else your little heart desires.
  7. *Extras can be frozen up to 3 months
