Enjoying Fall on the Lake
Today is officially the coldest day we have had so far this fall season. The thermostat in the car read 49 degrees on our way to take Zach to school this morning. For Floridians, that’s cold! We had seat warmers plus the heater on and we were still chilly. Pathetic I know, but oh so true. Once the sun came up though, things warmed up a bit and the weather became simply perfect. Luckie and I couldn’t resist enjoying fall on the lake this afternoon!
I must admit, one of the biggest perks of working from home is being able to enjoy the lake ALL the time. It’s a lot easier to write when you have this amazing view to inspire you. In the words of Bruno Mars, I’m #blessed! While the view from my air-conditioned kitchen where I write is always amazing, sitting outside to enjoy the lake during the dead of summer isn’t as appealing. Between the temperature and the humidity, you can’t last more than 10 minutes outside before you start sweating from places you didn’t even know could produce sweat. It’s gross! Today, thankfully, was not one of those days. I’m hoping and praying those days are gone for a little while at least.
By the late morning the temperature had crept up into the lower 60’s and the sun was shining without a single cloud in the sky. I let Luckie outside to do her business and the minute I walked into the sun I was in heaven. Before I knew it, I had found myself sitting on the dock, wrapped in a blanket and enjoying the glorious weather. Sadly, I feel like it’s been awhile since I’ve just taken the time to sit and stare at the lake. I forgot how tranquil it can be. I took a couple of pictures and then headed back into the house to finish working. Luckie, on the other hand, was not ready to come in quite yet. She lounged on the patio for a good half hour after I came back inside. How I wish I could be a dog!
Sitting on the dock might’ve been a five to ten-minute break at most, but it was just what I needed to recharge my batteries and get me back into work-mode. I came back inside the house and knocked out my to-do list for today and even started working on some extra tasks. I was extremely productive which felt awesome.
What do you do to recharge your batteries? More importantly, do you even take the time to recharge your batteries? As adults, we are constantly busy. We have so much on our plates that “wasting” time to do something for ourselves seems selfish. Is it that obvious I struggle with this myself? I have learned the hard way that you can only run on empty for so long before you crash and burn.
Take this as a public service announcement to stop and smell the roses from time to time. 🙂 Make a list of things you enjoy doing and find some time each day to incorporate it into your routine. There’s no reason to feel guilty about taking time for yourself.
