My Very Merry Christmas Decor
My Very Merry Christmas Decor is the perfect combination of fun holiday decorating ideas mixed with a few traditional touches. You’ll find your typical reds, greens and white throughout the space, but I added a splash of blue throughout our lake house to incorporate the coastal decor we already have. Grab yourself a cup of hot cocoa and take a look around.
Happy Holidays from Sunny Florida! The place where you can decorate outside in shorts and a t-shirt and still manage to sweat in the process. The same place where you will find palm trees strung with Christmas lights and Santa Claus wearing sunglasses and flip-flops.
It’s also the place where anything goes in terms of holiday decorating because, well, a Florida Christmas is in a category all its own. So with that Floridian mindset when it comes to holiday decorating, come on in and let me share with you My Very Merry Christmas Decor!
My holiday decorating was inspired by two things: Christmas and the lake! Of course, you will see red, green and white amongst my decorations, but you’ll also find blues and teals scattered throughout the house. My everyday home decor was inspired by the lake with its many shades of blues and greens. Instead of packaging all those items away for the holidays, I decided to incorporate some of them into my holiday decor.
I did the same thing with my fall decorations and loved it! I’d love to hear your thoughts on my fall decor. Click here and take a look!
Dining Room Holiday Decorating Ideas
Along the back wall of our dining room, we have a gorgeous built-in bar. I lucked out and found the perfect wreath to go underneath the shelf from Target! Can you see it front and center?
During the fall, the top shelf of the bar was decorated with pumpkins in all different colors, heights, and sizes. Having this variation in size, color and height is a must when you are decorating. If everything is the same, it just becomes boring and dull. You don’t want your holiday decorations to be boring and dull, do you?!
Here’s the bar shelf. Notice all the different sizes, heights, and colors that I added. All the decorations were purchased from Michaels.
The white cake stand and pitcher are also Target finds. I purchased some cheap flowers from Dollar Tree to add to the pitcher. My favorite item on this side of the bar is the plate Zach painted for us when he was just three years old. It’s so sentimental. I wrote a post all about embracing your sentimental Christmas decor that you must read.
The opposite side of the bar is home to our coffee bar. It’s truly one of my favorite places to decorate. I loved my summer decor for the coffee bar but I must admit I was in love with my Halloween decor the most.
I always like to place a small plate or spoon rest in front of my Keurig.
To the right of the Keurig is a two-tiered wire rack from Target that houses all my coffee and tea supplies. I used a clear vase with some red crepe paper to hold straws that are used as stirrers. I placed bows on the top of the mason jars and propped a holiday plate in the back that I purchased from Hallmark years and years ago.
The dining room table drove me nuts for days. I kept trying different pieces and switching things up every time I walked passed it. I finally settled on this for the center of the table.
Tip: I used a cake stand to add height to my centerpiece! Remember what I talked about before when it comes to variety in size, color, and height?!?! You can use cake stands, different size bowls, or even boxes of multiple sizes that you can cover with paper to match your decor and color scheme.
The table setting was very simple. A wood placemat (Pier 1), blue charger (from Michaels), white dinner plate (World Market), and red polka dot napkin (World Market) with napkin rings (Pier 1). I used this tutorial I found on Pinterest to help we fold the napkins into a bow.
Living Room Holiday Decorating Ideas
The main attraction of our house, besides the lake, is our living room. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. No wonder why I feel a lot of pressure to make it perfect! Again, decorating this space took multiple days because I wanted to find the ideal decoration for every single spot in the room.
Having an A-Type personality can really stink sometimes…
Here’s the side table along the right wall of the living room. We have our Disney Christmas village displayed on top of the table. On the bottom shelf, you’ll see snowmen that my mom got us from her days working at Hallmark. The cute banner was purchased at Michaels.
The small table, front and center, is simply decorated with a “merry” sign purchased at Michaels and my cute No-Sew Sock Snowmen. I made the adorable snowmen at one of my Virtual Pinterest Parties. Here’s the video in case you want to make some for yourself. The bottom shelf has another Hallmark snowman and a Santa bowl filled with fluff for his hair!
The coffee table is decorated with my turquoise serving tray that I bought when we moved into our house from Hobby Lobby. I filled the tray with fake snow, added a snowman, Christmas sign and some festive flowers all purchased at Michaels.
The couches got spruced up with a couple of decorative pillows. Both of the pillows were purchased at Michaels.
Moving on to the fireplace. The bottom left is home to decorations I bought from Michaels. This Michaels thing is kind of sounding a little pathic at this point, I know…
The mantle is home to stockings we purchased from Target a few years back but I know they are still carrying them because I saw them there today. The stocking holders are actually trains that didn’t fit with the decor so I covered them with big, beautiful Christmas flowers! It was much cheaper than spending money to get four new holders. I then made a few flower arrangements to place on the mantle and added decorative pieces purchased from…Michaels.
Side note: In my defense, Michaels has the best Black Friday deals so I did go a teeny bit crazy there. I do see how this could look like I have a problem.
To the right of the fireplace is my Hanukkah corner. My Mom is Jewish, which in turn makes me Jewish, so I have to pay tribute to Hanukkah even if it’s just this small space. We don’t exchange gifts on Hanukkah but I still try to light candles each night and make latkes every year!
This year we got a brand new small tree. We are using it to hold the ornaments from all the places we have traveled to on vacation. It’s “my thing” to get a new ornament as a souvenir when we travel. It’s so much fun to remember all the places we’ve gone!
And last but not least, My Pinterest Unworthy Christmas tree. It’s the ugliest thing in the room but the one with the most meaning. You must read my post about it. I’m starting a Christmas Tree Revolution. You should join me!
Ta Da! There you have it. My Very Merry Christmas Decor! As much as it was fun to do, I am so happy I finally finished. Decorating is hard work if I do say so myself…
