Happy Almost Halloween, folks! I’m so excited to share with you this week’s Thirsty Thursday cocktail. I’m lovingly referring to it as my Halloween Bucket Cocktail AKA the Ultimate Halloween cocktail recipe!
This Halloween Bucket Cocktail is a spin-off of one of my most popular cocktail recipes to date on the blog…the Sand Bucket Cocktail. That rum bucket cocktail literally went crazy on the Internet this summer. Just take one look at it and I bet you can see why…it’s just a beauty!
I knew I wanted to try and recreate that sand bucket drink idea immediately after making it. I’ve had the idea in the back of my brain since this summer. I’ve been waiting for that perfect opportunity to take my basic summer bucket drink recipe and transform it into something even more epic!
It wasn’t until I started switching my mindset from summer mode to fall mode, that I had the epiphany of how I could transform my sand bucket cocktail into something different and even more amazing.
Last month, while making a trip to Dollar Tree for fall seasonal decor, I came across those cute Halloween candy buckets they have every year. Most people look at those $1 Halloween buckets from Dollar Tree and see them for what they are: vessels to carry the kiddos’ Halloween treats. Am I right?! I, however, looked at that same exact Halloween bucket and thought to myself…Halloween Bucket Cocktail!
And that was when the idea was officially born! To really hone in on the Halloween theme, I purchased some glow sticks and plastic spiders while at Dollar Tree. I also found some super long plastic straws that were the perfect length to make it all the way to the bottom of my Halloween candy pail.
With the supplies purchased for my Halloween Bucket Cocktail, it was time to start concocting the actual bucket drink with all different liquors, juices, and fruit. I already had the perfect ratios for the ingredients mastered from my beach bucket cocktail this summer, so it was just a matter of deciding what actual ingredients I wanted to use for this Halloween bucket cocktail variety.
To stick with the theme of Halloween, I thought it would be fun to make an orange-colored cocktail inside my Halloween bucket. Pretty clever…don’t you think? To achieve the orange color, I added orange juice, mango/peach juice, and Fanta/Sunkist soda.
All the alcohol added to the Halloween bucket drink was clear so it didn’t change the orange coloring one bit. I also added a garnish of frozen mango and peaches for more orange, of course!
Like I mentioned earlier, this Halloween Bucket Cocktail is absolutely perfect for an Adult Halloween Party. If a Halloween Party isn’t in the cards for you this year, let me recommend whipping up one of these colossal cocktails for you and your sweetie instead.
Drinking one of these bucket cocktail drinks isn’t for the faint of heart. The amount of alcohol in one of these bucket cocktails is almost too much for just one person to consume (responsibly anyway!). Truth is, I actually took the measurements of my already alcohol-heavy Sand Bucket Cocktail and doubled them.
This Halloween Bucket Cocktail was created by me with the idea of sharing in mind. Consuming one solo is not recommended for all the reasons I just mentioned. Basically, you’ve been warned!
How to Make a Halloween Bucket Cocktail
1 cup coconut rum, ½ tropical fruit rum, 1 cup of fruit juice, ½ cup of orange juice, 2 cans orange soda, 2 cans mango hard seltzer, frozen fruit for garnish
Begin by adding ice to your Halloween bucket. You’ll want to add enough ice to fill the bucket at least ½ of the way full.
Next, add your 1 cup of coconut rum to the Halloween pail.
Add ½ of a cup of tropical fruit rum next. When it comes to the rum you choose, feel free to substitute a different flavored rum like pineapple, mango, or even banana. You can even skip the flavored rums all together and just go for a regular silver rum instead.
The fruit juice comes next. Because I wanted my drink to be orange, I added 1 cup of the V8 Splash mango peach variety.
Sticking with the orange color, I then added 1/2 of a cup of orange juice. You can swap the juices out for any juices you prefer if you’re not worried about keeping your cocktail orange.
With your juices and rums in the Halloween pail, give everything a good stir. Add your two cans of orange soda next. You can substitute Sprite, 7-Up, or any flavored sparkling water if you’re not worried about keeping your bucket cocktail orange.
All that is left to do is add your two floating cans of hard seltzer. I used the mango-flavored hard seltzer (the outside of the cans had orange accents to go with the theme), but the skies are the limit when choosing what to put in your Halloween bucket cocktail. You can use any brand of flavored hard seltzer or even add a bottled drink like Smirnoff Ice, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, or Seagrams too.
You simply open up the cans and quickly flip them into your bucket cocktail so they’re floating upside down in your Halloween pail.
Finally, I added in some frozen mango and peaches to the pail, strategically placed some plastic spiders, and added in a glow stick too!
All that is left to do is grab your straws and get to drinking this amazing Halloween-inspired bucket drink recipe!
This Halloween Bucket Cocktail is sure to be a hit whether you serve it at your adult Halloween party or just for you and your partner at home on Halloween night. Grab your Halloween pails and get to making your ultimate Halloween cocktail, folks!

This is such a FUN idea for Halloween! So, I decided to do it with my grandkids this past weekend–we used mango nectar and orange juice, some fresh blueberries, and a few Halloween plastic spiders. I bought a bucket at the Dollar Store –and put everything in it as you suggest. The only change–I used a ladle to ladle out the juice into individual cups. Not as cute as yours–but a close second.
I love that you did this with the grandkids sans the alcohol, of course!! I’d say your idea tied mine…definitely worthy of more than 2nd place. <3
