The winter season is here and holiday decorating at the lake is in full swing. Well, maybe I should be honest. The decorating actually took place a little bit earlier than normal around here this year and I’m completely finished decorating inside. Thank goodness!

This year, I spotted a trend when it comes to Christmas decorating. I noticed more and more people getting into the holiday spirit earlier than usual! For our family, it’s normally a tradition for us to hold off until the week of Thanksgiving to decorate. And I promise I tried everything in my power to stand my ground on that tradition.

Even as I watched pretty much everyone I know start posting pictures of their Christmas trees on full display the first week in November!

I finally broke down a week or two into November. I’ve never been one to decorate my master bedroom for Christmas, but after seeing a beautifully flocked tree on sale at Michael’s, I knew I needed one for our lake house master bedroom. Then I came across another pencil tree, on sale for only $49, and I knew I needed to get one for Zach’s superhero ornaments.

Notice the word, NEEDED, I keep using here. That’s the exact verbiage I used when telling Patrick about my tree idea. I needed him to understand that we needed two new trees for the upstairs of our lake home.  He definitely didn’t think we needed any more Christmas decorations but guess who got two new Christmas trees…this girl! Sorry, Patrick.

I ordered both trees from Michael’s and they arrived in no time. The flocked tree for our master bedroom arrived in about two days, actually, and I was beyond excited to get it decorated. I forced Patrick to take me to Walmart one night to get all the ornaments for both trees. That way, I could get started on our master bedroom tree plus be ready to pounce when Zach’s tree arrived too.

Little did I know that I would end up at Big Lots the very next day and find even more ornaments that I liked equally as much as the Walmart ones I found the night before. I decided to purchase the Big Lots Christmas ornaments too and bring them home because, well, why not?!

With an overwhelming amount of ornaments to choose from, I did what any sane person would do to help figure out which ones to use…I headed over to my social media to get everyone’s opinion. Want to see how helpful that was for me. Here you go. All I can say is I love my people! You’re all as indecisive as I am.

Ultimately, I ended up with a combination of ornaments from both stores. It ended up being a little bit of a hassle in the end only because I had to make returns at both Big Lots and Walmart for the ornaments that weren’t used. I normally do anything in my power to not deal with Walmart returns but it was a good $30 worth of ornaments that I needed to return so it was worth it…kind of!

I made a fun little video to share the Christmas tree decorating process with you. I even added some festive holiday music for your listening pleasure because I’m nice like that!

For someone who has never had a Christmas tree in their bedroom before, I must say that I am absolutely head over heels in love with it! It gives such a festive feel to our master bedroom. Patrick even got a remote control so that we can turn the tree off without even getting up out of bed. It’s magical!

I could’ve stopped at the Christmas tree, but once I started getting into the holiday spirit I decided to add a few more touches to our master bedroom. Our lake house Christmas bedroom decor is subtle because I didn’t want to take away from the tree as the focal point.

I added two wreaths to the double doors leading into our master suite. These wreaths were on our front doors last year but I decided to repurpose them into our master bedroom instead. I added tiny mint and white ornaments to the wreaths with hot glue to help tie the colors of the space together.

Our bed received a set of gray snowflake sheets that I absolutely love! I couldn’t find the exact ones but I did find this similar snowflake sheet set from Target. I also added a cute and colorful Merry Christmas pillow. Unfortunately, it’s sold out but this colorful Merry Christmas pillow is just as pretty!

A few brush Christmas trees pull together the festive look on the bedside tables.

Here are some more touches on our dresser. Would you believe the picture inside that frame is a panel I cut out from a Dollar Tree gift bag? You can also use wrapping paper or scrapbooking paper to achieve the same look.

Finally, I added a “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” pillow by our large floor mirror. I love it!

My Lake House Christmas Bedroom Decor turned out even better than I could ever imagine. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to decorate my master bedroom for Christmas. And for the record, Patrick said the tree is his favorite one in the house. That’s a complete win in my book.

  2. Your master bedroom tree is gorgeous! Love everything about it–and the decorating looks absolutely professional! We started the tradition of putting a Christmas tree in each of the boys’ bedrooms and our bedroom many years ago. And like you say–it’s magical! Our sons loved these lighted trees in their bedrooms–I think it was one of the most fun traditions we did. And yes, lying in bed looking at a beautifully lit Christmas tree–there’s nothing to compare to it!

    1. I love that you had that tradition with your boys. It doesn’t surprise me one bit though! It really is magical having a tree in your bedroom. I can’t believe I waited this long to get one!
