Lake Life | How Living On The Lake Has Changed My Life

Living on the lake has changed my life in so many ways. When I decided that I wanted to start my own blog I knew that the word “lake” needed to be in the title one way or another. Since moving into our new home back in June of 2016, I have been obsessed with EVERYTHING lake related. That’s what happens to you when you are bit by the “lake bug”. All you want to do 24/7 is look at the lake, be on the lake, look at things online to buy for the lake… Are you catching what I’m throwing? After lists and lists of potential names, and all my family and friends giving me their feedback and ideas, I finally decided on my title “Lake Life State of Mind”. It was a beautiful afternoon and we were sitting on the patio enjoying the fresh air and lake view as a family. We were brainstorming ideas for a blog title and my mom came up with the name. I thought it was catchy! Plus, it’s a spin on the song, “New York State of Mind ” by Billy Joel. The title seemed fitting since I was actually born in the Bronx. It tied together the place where I started life and where I am now…living the dream on the lake!

Sometimes I still can’t even believe that we live here and this is our home.  It’s hard not to be in a “Lake Life State of Mind,” in this house. From the minute you walk in the door you see nothing but water as far as the eyes can see. It is an instant stress reliever. You could be having a horrible day but when you walk through the door the lake water just seems to soothe you. It still takes my breath away over a year later.

Living on a lake has really changed our family. We spend a substantial amount of time outdoors now and we have started some new hobbies. One of our favorite things to do is go fishing for bass. If you would’ve asked me a couple of years ago if I would ever see myself enjoying fishing I would have said HECK NO! Surprisingly I love it and so do “the boys”. In all honesty, Luckie loves fishing the most out of all of us. She seems to find her way into every single photo we have of us catching fish. It’s hilarious!

We also purchased a pontoon boat last year so we have started boating as well. Again, something I would never imagine doing in the past. Once we got the boat we decided to get a couple of rafts to pull behind the boat. I haven’t built up the courage to get on it yet but Patrick and Zach jump on it with no problem. We also have a kayak and I got a paddle board for Mother’s Day in my favorite color, purple. It’s weird to think we are kind of outdoorsy people now but the lake just draws you in. It’s almost like you look for excuses to be on the lake.

My favorite activity of all is sitting on our dock doing nothing! Hahahhaa, well would drinking a glass of wine staring at the water be considered nothing? I’d say so. I can’t help myself. It’s just so peaceful. Sometimes I’ll grab a book and read or skim Pinterest on my phone. I’ll grab a seat on my Adirondack chair, Luckie by my side, and we’ll just pass the time away. It’s simply perfect.

This house on the lake has changed my life in more ways I ever thought possible. I can’t wait to share with you this little piece of heaven that we get to call home. I look forward to going on this journey with you as we enjoy lake living and all it has to offer.

  1. So so true about how lucky you are if you can live on the water, be at the lake. It is
spiritual and you are on vacation, retired. Until tomorrow morning if still working. Love
