Are you ready for another cocktail, folks?! I sure was last night and I knew something tropical was exactly what I needed to quench my thirst. What concoction did I come up with this time? These yummy and delicious Mango Banana White Wine Slushies. Patrick and I enjoyed one with our dinner and can I just say they totally hit the spot!
A little over a month ago I introduced my first cocktail on the blog, Pineapple Paradise Mimosas. Within that short amount of time, those scrumptious mimosas were saved over 700 times on social media. Holy cow, man! If I’m reading my audience right, you guys REALLY like adult-beverages. Who am I to deprive you of that?! I say, “Give the people what they want!”
And you guys are really going to want these beauties. It’s almost hard to put into words how refreshing these white wine slushies are. You’ll just have to try them yourselves so you can understand what I mean. Do you think you can handle that? Oh, I know you can. I have faith in you.
The key to these Mango Banana White Wine Slushies is to make sure all your fruit is frozen and the white wine is chilled prior to placing everything into the blender. By doing this, you won’t need to add any ice when blending the ingredients together. I personally think that’s a huge plus because the flavors of the ingredients get to shine through and you won’t have to worry about anything tasting watered down at all.
I happen to love the combination of mangoes and bananas and one of my favorite drinks to make at home are mango banana daiquiris. I found the recipe on Pinterest a few years back and I’ve enjoyed making them from time to time ever since. If bananas and mangoes aren’t “your thing”, no sweat! You can substitute any other frozen fruit your little heart desires. Frozen pineapple, watermelon, or berries would be great in this too. As long as you have roughly 3 cups of frozen fruit, any kind will do the trick!
In terms of the white wine, any kind will work here too. I chose to go with Chardonnay because it’s a little drier and the other ingredients were rather sweet. If you want to make these white wine slushies even sweeter, try a Riesling or Moscato. For something a little drier and along the same lines as the Chardonnay I used, you can try a Sauvignon Blanc. Whatever white wine you choose, make sure you pick a CHEAP one. Anytime you are going to make a mixed drink like this or something like a Sangria, don’t waste your money buying an expensive wine that will be overshadowed. It’s not worth it!
Oh and one more thing! While grabbing my chilled wine from the fridge, I just happened to come across a bottle of banana rum we had in there from one of our parties. I couldn’t resist putting it into the blender with the frozen fruit and white wine. I personally think it took these white wine slushies to a completely different level but by no means is it a necessity. Basically, if you have it lying around feel free to add it but don’t make an extra trip to the store if you don’t. Make sense? Coconut rum would do the trick too if you happen to have that in your liquor cabinet.
So what do I need to make these Mango Banana White Wine Slushies?
1 can of mangoes (drained and frozen), 2 bananas (frozen), 1 bottle of white wine, ¼ cup of banana rum (optional)
I began by draining my can of mangoes and placing them on a plate lined with waxed paper in the freezer.
You can actually find mangoes in the freezer section of your grocery store, but I happened to have a can lying around in my pantry so I decided to use it. I tend to go for the can or the frozen variety of mangoes because I can get them year round and the chopping is already done for me. If you’ve never tried it, cutting a mango isn’t the easiest task. There’s a HUGE seed in the center that you need to work around. I always feel like I’m not getting as much of the fruit off the seed as I should be.
Along with your mangoes, you’ll also want to make sure your two bananas are frozen. I ended up with roughly 3 cups of frozen fruit. Substitute any variety of fruit you want here just make sure it measures three cups.
Once your mangoes and bananas are frozen, add them to your blender.
Start by adding about ½ a bottle of wine and your ¼ cup of rum if you are using it.
Blend everything together until smooth.
Everyone likes a different consistency when it comes to their slushies so by adding just half a bottle of wine at first, you can gauge how thick you’d like yours.
I ultimately ended up adding the entire bottle of white wine to the blender, but again, that was just my preference. The consistency was perfect and the wine flavor really came through. I happen to really love wine but if you aren’t so crazy about it, I would shy away from using an entire bottle.
Pour yourself a drink and Enjoy!
