Happy Tequila Thursday! Do you think it’s okay if I officially make this my new theme for Thursdays? I mean come on, there’s nothing better than sipping on a delicious Orange Mango Tequila Sunrise and staring at the beautiful lake view to pass the time away.

Unless your preference is a strawberry margarita, in which case I wouldn’t be mad at you!

If you can’t tell, I have a fondness for tequila. It’s hands down my favorite liquor of choice. I love it in all its different forms too. Single shots with an orange wedge. Mixed cocktails. If you tell me something has tequila in it, I’ll most definitely give it a try!

Personally, I think tequila gets a bad wrap. It seems to be the most common liquor that people blame all their poor drunken decisions on. And while I know some people who that might be true for, it’s definitely not the case for me. Give me a little tequila and I’m the happiest girl around. Add some good music to the mix and I’ll pretty much dance the night away.

Don’t you want to hang out with Tequila Tiffany?! She’s a real party animal…

The number one thing I have learned about tequila over the past few years is that the quality of what you’re drinking matters! You’ll pretty much always find me paying the upcharge for Patrón Silver to add to any of my cocktails when I’m out and about.

At home, we always have a bottle of Patrón Silver in the freezer ready to go. Don Julio tequila is another great option that we sometimes keep in the house. Oh, and Patrón XO Cafe is a coffee-flavored tequila that’s absolutely AMAZING!

Side note, Patrick and I won “Best Presentation” at a cocktail competition back in February and our drink included Patrón XO Cafe. It’s delicious, folks.  Maybe I can make that for my next Tequila Thursday?!

Let’s get back on point, Tiffany. The bottom line, and my two cents for what it is worth, spring the extra buck or two for the better quality tequila. It goes down much smoother and the morning after isn’t followed with a massive hangover.

My guess is cheap tequila is what causes all the drinking drama we hear so much about!

If you’re new to drinking tequila, starting off with a straight shot of it might not be the best introduction. I highly suggest easing yourself into it with something like a margarita or this orange mango tequila sunrise. You’ll still get that full shot of tequila but it will be accompanied with some other delicious flavors.

So let’s talk about this cocktail for a second. One of the best things about this drink is the fact that it literally has three ingredients: tequila, grenadine, and orange mango juice. If you wanted to, you could be extra fancy and garnish it with an orange slice or cherry but it’s totally not necessary.

The name, tequila sunrise, comes from the layering effect that happens between the different liquids in this cocktail. The grenadine sinks way down to the bottom while the orange mango juice and tequila float at the top giving it a “sunrise look”.

It’s almost too pretty to drink…Almost!

And you want to know what else is fun?! If you have kids at home or aren’t much of a drinker yourself, you can simply make this drink without the tequila. You’ll still get the same “sunrise look” minus the alcohol! Pretty awesome, right?

Orange Mango Tequila Sunrise

¾ cup of Orange Mango Juice (I used Simply Orange brand), 1 ½ oz or 3 tablespoons of tequila, ¾ oz. or 1 ½ tablespoons of grenadine, cherries or orange slices as an optional garnish

Fill your glass with ice and set it aside.

I used a measuring cup and added my ¾ cup of orange mango juice inside.

To the measuring cup, I added my 1 ½ oz. tequila and gave it a stir.

Pour your tequila and orange mango juice into your glass.

Slowly pour the ¾ oz. of grenadine into the glass over the back of a spoon or by drizzling it down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom.

Feel free to garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Enjoy!
