Party games aren’t just for kids anymore! Adults love playing party games too. If you are looking for a way to take your party to the next level, you’ve come to the right place. Come see the many benefits of having party games at your next gathering.
Let me set the scene for you. You’re putting together the final touches for your party just before your guests arrive. You are so excited to be hosting this for your family and friends and are literally counting down the minutes until they arrive. You’ve checked your list, not once but twice, and you are officially ready to rock this party! You hear the doorbell ring and you know your first guests have arrived. You’re giddy with excitement as you make your way to the door.
As your guests roll in, you’re making sure to offer them a beverage and pointing them in the direction of the appetizers. You’re obviously a party pro now! I can tell you’ve read my post and know that those are two of the 5 Things Every Party Must Have!
Once everyone is settled in, you take a minute to catch your breath, finally grab a drink for yourself, and take a quick survey of the room. At first glance, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. They are eating, drinking and chatting it up! You’re about to pat yourself on the back for being such an AMAZING host when…
You see it! Off in the corner, sitting as far away from the crowd as possible, you notice one of your guests looking all alone. You quickly make your way over to talk to them. The last thing you want is your guests not to have a good time! They’re truly excited to see you and you start an awesome conversation right away. Just as they start to feel comfortable you hear someone calling your name from the kitchen. You apologize but have to run off to help. Technically you are in charge of this entire shindig, ugh!
Now you feel horrible. How do I know? Because this has happened to me before, and unfortunately, it’s happened more than once. Although I haven’t figured out a way to please everybody 100% of the time (As much as I’ve tried!), I have been able to come up with something that definitely combats the number of disconnected party guests I have.
My secret…Party Games! Don’t you laugh, folks. Party games aren’t just for kids!
I for one LOVE PARTY GAMES and find them to be such a great addition to any of my gatherings. As a “Party Game Professional”, I have put together a list of My Favorite Party Games that you can check out for free in my resource library. You’ll definitely want to try one of them at your next party because they’re a blast and are sure to get everyone involved!
Still not sold on the fact that party games aren’t just for kids?
Here are a few reasons why having party games make your get-togethers that much better for you and your guests!
They break the ice. Unless it’s a party consisting of only family, almost every gathering has a mixture of people from all different places. For most of my parties, I have a mixture of family, my personal friends, Patrick’s friends, and now that Zach is a teenager, some of his too. It’s so easy for everyone to stay with their “own people” because it’s honestly more comfortable that way.
Adding a party game to the mix allows everyone to participate and interact with one another. Before you know it, conversations start happening and people who had never met before are interacting and having a great time. The game was all they needed to loosen up and get the conversation flowing!
They’re helpful for introverts. I’m definitely not an introvert and either is Zach, my son. We’ll pretty much talk to anybody about anything and find it easy to make conversations. My husband Patrick, on the other hand, is a total introvert. Meeting new people for the first, second, or even third time is hard for him! He finds interacting with new people a little awkward and coming up with things in common to talk about isn’t always easy for him.
By supplying a party game, you are creating that common ground for your guests. Everyone is focused on the goal of playing and winning the game and now those hard to start conversations become a little easier.
What if you have guests that are so introverted they don’t even want to play? No worries! They can watch. I don’t mean that in a bad way either. Watching is sometimes more fun than participating because you get to see everyone else make fools out of themselves.
Party games make you laugh and have fun. This is a given. Party games are fun and hilarious for so many reasons. You can laugh at those who get overly competitive and take the game too seriously. You can laugh at those who just plain stink at the game too. You can even laugh at the losers and gloat as the winners! Who doesn’t enjoy all the above?!
Party games can get people up and moving. Certain party games can be great for getting people up and moving. I’ve added some to My Favorite Party Games printable to help give you some ideas.
Why would you want your guests up and moving around? Sometimes just the act of getting up and moving around in a space makes someone feel more acclimated and comfortable in their surroundings. Sometimes, people are so uncomfortable when they are in a party setting that they walk in the door and make a beeline to the first open seat. Once there, they stay put and take ownership of that spot never venturing from it for the rest of the party. You can really throw those people for a loop and have some outdoor games! Hahaha!
Last, but certainly not least, party games are helpful for the host. Why? For all the reasons I just listed. As a host, you should want your guests to feel welcomed and comfortable in your home. You want them to get in their cars after they leave your house and reflect on what an amazing time they had!
Another added bonus, with your guests entertained, you can slip away to do some of your hosting responsibilities without anyone knowing. It will free up some time for you to refill the ice bucket or take out the trash.
Are you ready to incorporate some games at your next party? Don’t knock it until you try it! I promise you that party games aren’t just for kids. Your guests will love you and want to come back over and over again.
