Join me as I take a traditional Sex on the Beach cocktail recipe and make it my own. My Pineapple Sex on the Beach Drink Recipe is a must-try summer cocktail that’s a breeze to make.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m pretty confident you’ve heard of a Sex on the Beach cocktail before. It’s one of those cocktails that has been around for ages and enjoyed by millions.
The classic Sex on the Beach drink features vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice. You might even come across some recipes that add a little grenadine to the mix as well!
A classic is a classic for a reason, I get it, but I’m really enjoying adding my own spin on tried and true cocktail recipes that have stood the test of time. Just last week, I took a traditional vodka soda and made 8 different variations of it using flavored sparkling waters and flavored vodkas.
Because I had so much fun last week, I thought I’d try my hand at creating a Sex on the Beach drink using flavors that I have personally learned to love in my cocktails. I have to say, I’m quickly becoming addicted to putting a fresh spin on old cocktail recipes from the past. It has definitely been fun experimenting with different flavor combinations.
Two flavors that I really enjoy in my summer cocktails are mango and pineapple. I’ve mentioned this before, but something about these two flavors screams “tropical oasis” to me. And because I have zero plans of going anywhere tropical in the near future, the next best thing I can do right now is to create cocktails like my spicy mango margarita or pineapple paradise mimosa to trick myself into thinking I’m on vacation.
When I committed to the idea of making a modified version of a Sex on the Beach drink for this week’s Thirsty Thursday, I knew I wanted to add at least one of those two flavors to my cocktail. I tend to have pineapple juice in the house because it’s one of my favorite cocktail mixers so I figured I’d just swap out the orange juice in the Sex on the Beach cocktail for pineapple juice. I figured I’d leave the cranberry juice as is.
As I mentioned, I already had pineapple juice at home but cranberry juice isn’t something I normally buy. I knew I had to grab some when I went to Publix to be able to make my cocktail concoction. I don’t know how long it has been since you’ve shopped for cranberry juice but holy moly the varieties that are available now are insane.
Cranberry blackberry, cranberry cherry, cranberry pomegranate, cranberry raspberry, and the list continues on and on! I was stuck between the cranberry pineapple and cranberry mango varieties but I ultimately decided on mango. My thought was by buying the mango variety, I could enjoy having both pineapple and mango in my version of a Sex on the Beach!
Pick the flavors that appeal best to you. Experiment with different combinations until you find the one that pleases your palate the most! I can pretty much guarantee that I will try that cranberry pineapple variety in the near future so be on the lookout.
Pineapple Sex on the Beach Drink Recipe
1 oz./2 tbsp vodka, 1 oz./2 tbsp peach schnapps, 3 oz./6 tbsp. pineapple juice, 3 oz./6 tbsp. cranberry juice (I used Ocean Spray cranberry mango), cherries (optional garnish)
Begin by filling your glass with ice.
Next, add your peach schnapps to the glass.
Your vodka goes in the glass next.
Pour in your pineapple juice with your other ingredients.
The cranberry juice goes into your glass last. Again, I used the Ocean Spray Cranberry Mango variety for my Sex on the Beach cocktail.
Give all your ingredients a good stir and garnish with cherries if you so choose. I also had to add the little toothpick umbrella because no tropical drink is complete without one. Am I right?!
The above measurements are what you need to make one delicious cocktail for yourself but you don’t have to drink alone, my friend. Grab a pitcher and easily make this cocktail for a crowd.
How do you do this, you ask? Instead of 1 oz. of the two liquors, increase the measurement to one cup of each. Instead of 3 oz. of the juices, substitute 3 cups of each. Or go even bigger with 2 cups of each liquor and 6 cups each of the juices.
Are you seeing my math skills working hard here? I bet you didn’t know I taught middle school math at one point, did you? Who knew math would be so beneficial to my cocktail making game!
Let’s just say, my Pineapple Sex on the Beach Drink Recipe is a home run in the cocktail department if I do say so myself. Enjoy one or two yourself this weekend and let me know what you think. And if you make any variations to the cocktail, please let me know that too. Have a fabulous day and I will see you next week for another edition of Thirsty Thursday!
