This Spiked Dole Whip Recipe with Coconut Rum is a delicious summer cocktail that can easily be whipped up at home. See how to take the traditional Disney Dole Whip recipe and make it into the best boozy Dole Whip you’ll ever taste!

Spiked Dole Whip Recipe with Coconut Rum

Making your own homemade spiked version of the ever so popular Disney Dole Whip is easier than you think. It literally blows my mind to think that this pineapple frozen cocktail is made using just three ingredients: pineapple, coconut rum, and vanilla ice cream! Crazy, right?!

Back in April, Disney shared their secret recipe for the famous frozen Dole Whip treat. With the parks being closed due to the pandemic, Disney shared this recipe plus many more like their churro bites, Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets, and the grilled cheese sandwich from Toy Story Land.

I just have to say, we made the grilled cheese sandwiches from Toy Story Land and I swear they were the best grilled cheese sandwiches we’ve ever had. Zach, my son, is begging me to make them again. We ate them alongside a nice bowl of tomato soup. That’s all she wrote! Good night! Calgon take me away!

The recipe shared by Disney for their traditional Dole Whip concoction featured just three simple ingredients: frozen pineapple, pineapple juice, and vanilla ice cream. You simply add all three in a blender and you have your own homemade copycat recipe of a Disney Dole Whip. Easy peasy!

I personally love a good Dole Whip when I’m walking around Disney. It’s the perfect frozen drink to cool you off with when you’re strolling around the parks in the hot Florida sun. As a Floridian who lives about 20 minutes from Disney, I can tell you the heat and humidity can be brutal here! Dole Whips are a must!

Although the original Dole Whip is found in various places throughout Disney, the spiked Dole Whip variety is a little harder to come by. I came across it the first time while at Epcot for their Food and Wine Festival. Basically, you receive a traditional serving of Dole Whip with delicious coconut rum floating around the edges of your cup. It’s mind-blowing!

In case you’re visiting the parks when the Food and Wine Festival isn’t happening, I’ve heard that you can currently find the coconut rum or a dark rum version (I need to try this!) of a Dole Whip in Animal Kingdom at a place called Tamu Tamu Refreshments.

With my copycat recipe, however, you won’t have to ever step on Disney property. You’re welcome…I just saved you a million dollars! I’m not kidding. I think the daily cost for a one day pass to Disney is now over $100!

I’m going to teach you two different ways to make this easy homemade Dole Whip with coconut rum. Both varieties use the same exact ingredients. The only difference between the two is one takes less than 5 minutes to make while the other one needs at least a few hours, preferably more, to come together.

Ingredients to make a Spiked Dole Whip Recipe with Coconut Rum

For the easy and less time-consuming version of a Boozy Dole Whip you’ll need:

2 cups of frozen pineapple, ½ cup of coconut rum (I prefer Malibu), 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream

You simply add all three items into your blender and combine until you reach a smooth, soft-serve ice cream consistency. Hint: I prefer to start with just ¼ cup of the coconut rum and then add more as needed. If your Dole Whip is too thick, continue to add more of the rum until you’ve reached your desired consistency.

Although more time consuming, the following recipe is my preferred method for a perfectly delicious spiked Dole Whip. It’s just as easy but requires some time for the flavors to marry together.

You’ll need:

20 oz. can of pineapple tidbits, 1 cup of coconut rum (I prefer Malibu), 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream

Begin by draining the juice out of your can of pineapple.

Once drained, place your pineapple tidbits into a shallow container. Spread your pineapple into an even layer in the container.

Pour 1 cup of coconut rum on top of your pineapple. Your goal is to try and submerge all your pineapple in the coconut rum.

From here, allow your pineapple to sit in the coconut rum. The pineapple will actually soak up the rum as it sits. The longer you keep it in the rum, the more it will soak up. I left mine in the coconut rum overnight.

The next morning, or whenever you are done soaking your pineapple, strain your coconut rum from the pineapple. I did this over a mixing cup so I knew exactly how much rum I had. You’ll need about ½ cup to add to the blender. Note: I just took my rum and placed it in the refrigerator to stay cold while I waited on the other ingredients to come together.

Once you’ve strained the rum from the pineapple, place your pineapple back in the container and put it in the freezer until frozen.

After a couple of hours, your pineapple should be frozen and you’ll be ready to put your spiked Dole Whip together.

Frozen pineapple

You simply add your frozen pineapple, ice cream, and coconut rum into your blender and combine until you reach a smooth, soft-serve ice cream consistency. Just as I said before, I prefer to start with just ¼ cup of the coconut rum and then add more as needed. If your Dole Whip is too thick, continue to add more of the rum until you’ve reached your desired consistency.

I’m sure most of you will opt for the 5-minute version of this recipe because of the sheer ease and time it takes to make it. Option two does take a substantially longer amount of time but I do feel it gives you a much more harmonious flavor profile! At least try it that way once!
