There’s a Bun in the Oven | Baby Shower Game
Looking for a unique game to play at your next baby shower or baby sprinkle? This fun and simple game doubles as an accessory that guests can wear during the baby shower. Print the free template from my resource library and get started on creating a unique baby shower game that your guests will never forget!
Baby Shower games are the best! Don’t you agree? I’m sure you’ve played some of the common ones. Have you tried to guess how long of a string you would need to wrap all the way around the Mommy-To-Be’s belly? Or maybe you’ve gagged over tasting some baby food while trying to figure out the flavor? As much as those games are fun (and I honestly would play them again in a heartbeat!), I have a unique game to share that not many people have heard of. Wondering what it is? It’s called, There’s a Bun in the Oven!
There’s a Bun in the Oven is a great shower game for three reasons:
It’s unique and not many people have heard of it!
The game happens without anyone having to do anything special.
The game doubles as a cute pin your guests can wear during the shower.
How do you play?
Everyone receives a There’s a Bun in the Oven pin when they walk in the door. This is a great job to give the mother-to-be on the day of the shower. That’s exactly what I did for my best friend Kristen’s Elephant Themed Baby Shower. You can see all the pictures here. I placed all the pins in a cute little basket by the door, and as each guest arrived, Kristen said hello and placed a pin on them.
The only thing that the guests have to do is make sure to keep their pin on throughout the course of the party. They are allowed to say the word “baby” and anything else for that matter! The winner has actually already been determined once all the pins have been given out.
Towards the end of the party, before any of the guests leave, have everyone take off their pins and hold them in their hands. Instruct them to flip the pin over and look inside the dress. Everyone will have a white pregnant belly (or felt color of your choice) underneath the dress except for the one lucky winner!
The winner has a brown belly. The brown belly signifies “The Bun in the Oven”! Cute, right?!
How do you make the pins for the game?
Dress pattern – Print it from my free resource library. Get the password by filling out the form at the bottom of the post
Felt in any color for the dresses- I used white to go with the baby shower colors
Brown felt – a tiny piece for “The Bun in the Oven”
Ribbon in any color – I used gray to go with the baby shower colors
Flower accent – I used navy to go with the baby shower colors
Mini clothespins
Hot glue gun
Permanent marker
Begin by printing out the dress template on card stock. Remember you can download it for free in my resource library.
Cut out the template.
Lay two pieces of felt on top of one another and start tracing the dress pattern all over the top piece of felt.
Once you’re done tracing all the dresses you’ll need (each guest at the shower will need one pin), take a sharp pair of scissors and cut out the pattern making sure to cut both pieces of felt together. Keep all the scraps to use later.
Take a glue gun, and on one of the pieces of felt, place glue everywhere except the bottom line of the dress.
Carefully place the second piece of felt on top of the glued dress and combine the two pieces together. They should be glued together everywhere except along the bottom edge.
Remember those scraps you saved? You want to cut a decent size piece and roll it up. You will be sticking this inside the dress to act as the pregnant belly.
Place the felt inside the dress.
This is the look you are going for.
All the dresses will have white (or whatever color you are using for your color scheme), except for the one with the bun in the oven. Remember, you need one piece of brown felt to stick inside the winning pin!
Next, take a thin piece of ribbon and hot glue it on just above the pregnant belly you made.
Hot glue the flower accent on your ribbon like so.
All that’s left to do is hot glue the mini clothespin to the back.
Simply put hot glue along the length of the clothespin.
Attach the clothespin to the dress with the part that you squeeze to open the pin on the top.
Success! You’ve just done it.
“There’s a Bun in the Oven” is a baby shower game that will leave everyone ranting and raving, in a good way of course! Make some for the next baby shower you host and don’t forget to share a picture of them with me. I’d love to see how they turn out!
