Trick or Treat! You’ve Been Boozed, my friend, and I think you’re going to like it. Check out my adult-only twist to the popular “You’ve Been Booed” phenomenon. Instead of candy and Halloween treats for the family, my version secretly places a nice bottle of wine, champagne, or spirits, at a neighbor’s doorstep.
Have you been “Booed” before? I have! Multiple times actually and it’s awesome.
My first “booing” happened a good 7 years ago when I was still a 4th-grade teacher. I remember walking into my classroom and being shocked to find a plastic Trick-or-Treating pumpkin filled to the brim with Halloween candy, pencils, erasers, and other little trinkets.
Along with the goodies, I found two pieces of paper. One paper was a sign that said, “We’ve Been Booed”. The other paper explained that these treats were a surprise for me and my class. We needed to continue the Halloween spirit and “Boo” another classroom who hadn’t been “booed” yet.
How do you know if someone has been “booed”?
When you’re “booed”, you must place your “We’ve Been Booed” sign in the window or on your door so anyone looking to continue the chain knows you’ve already received Halloween treats. Fun, right?!
Since that first time being “booed” in my classroom, I have been “booed” several more times by neighbors in our old community back in Tampa. It’s just a really fun way to help spread Halloween cheer. Who doesn’t like opening their door to a basket full of delicious Halloween goodies…right?!
Fast forward a good 7 years and we currently live in a more secluded area. Sadly, we get no trick-or-treaters here at all! Plus our son, Zach, is now 17 years old and goes trick-or-treating in his friends’ neighborhoods. Halloween sure has changed for us around here over the years.
It’s really kind of hard to get into the Halloween spirit when Halloween doesn’t seem to happen in your house anymore.
But I’m vowing to make a change moving forward. Halloween is going to be different from now on. I’ve given up the pity party for myself and have vowed to make Halloween special and fun from here on out.
Moms, dads, grandmas, and grandpas listen up. You’re never too old to celebrate Halloween! Who’s with me?!
Thus far I’ve created some delicious adult-only Halloween Creamsicle Jello Shots and decorated my house for Halloween in a non-traditional color palette that’s a far cry from the decor I once used when our kiddo was younger.
As a way of getting my fellow grown-ups on board with my “Take Back Halloween” revolution, I decided to gift a few friends and neighbors with a nice bottle of wine. I “Boozed” them! And they really seemed to like it. Want to learn how to do the same to your friends and neighbors. Let me teach you!
What you need to start the “You’ve Been Boozed” tradition in your neighborhood.
- Free Halloween Wine Tag Printables (Fill out the form below)
- A bottle of your favorite wine, champagne, or spirits (This Vampire wine is one of the bottles pictured.)
- Ribbon (optional but oh so pretty!)
Print the adorable Halloween Wine Tag Printables by entering your name and email address in the form at the bottom of this post. I recommended printing it on card stock but if all you have is regular copy paper it’s not the end of the world. The card stock is just a little more sturdy, that’s all.
Cut out the two You’ve Been Boozed tags. Don’t forget to remove the tiny holes for the neck of your bottle.
To remove the holes, I gently folded the wine tag and made a small slit inside it.
With the slit now cut, you can easily work around the entire circle until it’s free from the rest of the You’ve Been Boozed tag.
Tada! It’s as easy as that.
Simply slip the two Halloween You’ve Been Boozed printable wine tags on the neck of your wine, champagne, or spirit bottle. Next, add a festive bow just because it’s pretty, and leave the Halloween treat at a neighbor’s front door. Try to be as sneaky as possible too. It’s more fun to keep the gift-giving a secret!
Sit back and admire your work! Hopefully, your neighbors follow directions and keep the chain going strong.
I’m still confused about how this “You’ve been Boozed” chain works.
Let me break it down one more time! And so you know, these instructions are printed on one of the You’ve Been Boozed printable wine tags so your neighbors shouldn’t have any problems figuring it all out.
- You begin the chain by printing out my “You’ve Been Boozed” printables and placing them on a bottle of your choice. Here’s the link to the vampire wine I used.
- Next, you secretly place the bottle at a neighbor’s front door, coworker’s cubicle, etc.
- Once the neighbor receives the bottle, they make a copy of the You’ve Been Boozed tag you placed on their bottle.
- After making the copy, the neighbor takes the “You’ve Been Boozed” tag and puts it on their door, window, cubicle, etc. This is so others know “You’ve Been Boozed” already.
- The original two tags will go on a bottle they purchase to continue the chain with a new neighbor, friend, coworker, etc.
- It’s as easy as that!
I don’t know about you but I’m so excited to get this “You’ve Been Boozed” chain started! I’ve got my bottles put together and I’m ready to surprise a few neighbors ASAP. If you give this a try in your own neighborhood let me know how it works out!
Before you go, here’s a super fun and easy way to take the basic presentation to the next level. Watch my quick broomstick presentation tutorial below.
